Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
I know I have not been able to post for some time now, but I want you to know that I have not forgotten my blog.  I have had several VERY busy months and there wasn't time or energy to post. I hope to be posting again soon.

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - Week 2

Join me and the Homeschool Mother's Journal  as we recap our week.

In my life this week…I am feeling completely overwhelmed.  I'm watching my nephews while my sister trys to get permanent childcare arrangements made.  They are 3 and 5 and VERY active boys.  I feel like I'm so far behind in cleaning a laundry I may never catch up. I
In our homeschool this week… We are still trying to get into a groove.  This week we studied monasteries.  We read The Ink Garden of Brother Theophane by C.M. Millen.

The pictures are beautiful, but I can't say Bee was all that impressed with it.  She did love learning that colored ink came from plants.

Bee is doing GREAT in Spelling and has gotten another perfect spelling test this week.  She is enjoying reading but is so excited to be reading books that I have to remind her to slow down and read EVERY word. We are still reviewing the Math from last year, so nothing new there.

I am still trying to finalize a ASL (American Sign Language) curriculum.  I am using several different resources and trying to come up with something that works for us.  I am also trying to figure out a way for our school days to go smoother.  I am currently trying to put together a school binder for Bee.  It will have lesson plans for the day, the schedule for the week and month.  I'm not sure what else will be in there, but it's a work in progress.

I am feeling frustrated at the Co-ops in our area.  Every time I try to find something to put Bee in, it's to expensive or they are no longer meeting.  I am taking a leap of faith and enrolling Bee in Awanas at a church in our area.

My favorite thing this week was…Bee dressed in her Ballerina outfit for her Ballet class.  She looks so cute in her little pink tights.

Questions/thoughts I have…How do I better allow Bee to spend time with other kids?

Things I’m working on… I'm working on a home binder and a School binder for Bee.  I'm hoping it will make me feel more organized.  I'm also working on staying calm.  I'm embarrassed to say I am having trouble not going crazy lately.

I’m grateful for…Those people who love me and remember I am only human.

I’m praying for…Peace. As I said before I am feeling very wound up lately and I don't like it.

Thank you for checking me out. I hope to see you again!

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - Week 1

Join me and the Homeschool Mother's Journal as we recap our week.

In my life this week…Everything else seems to be going crazy. One of my sister's has moved to our area and we are trying to help her out by watching her boys while she's trying to find a job and child care.  Bug is teething and not wanting to sleep in her own bed.  I am having to resort to letting her sleep in her swing in our room.  I have been trying to play catch up with sleep because of our little one.

In our homeschool this week…This was our first week of homeschool this year and it was a rocky one.  Bee is having a hard time paying attention and listening to instructions.  I'm sure it's very hard to do when there is a crying baby and a 3 year old cousin making noise.

This week our Theme was Tea Party.  We read Miss Spider's Tea Party by David Kirk.

It was a very cute book about a spider who just wants to be friendly to the bugs around her.  Bee was very upset with the other bugs because they were not very nice to Miss Spider.  Read the book and find out what happens when a moth is trapped and can't escape Miss Spider.

This week we have done a lot of reviewing for Phonics and Math.  I have to keep reminding Bee that once we are through reviewing we will be learning new more difficult things.  She is enjoying her new subject of Reading and can't wait for the Cursive to start too.  We are taking things slow for Sign Language so far. We have watched one Signing Time video and reviewed some basic signs.  For Social Studies we talked about Tea Party manners and etiquette.  For Science we discussed the Tea plant and how it's grown.

Bee did struggle with her first spelling test this week. She did fine on all her words but completely missed the point of her dictation sentence.  We practiced for the dictation sentence 3 times this week and she still didn't get it.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…This weekend we are going to Mr. Daddy's Dad and Step-Mom's for her birthday.
Questions/thoughts I have…I'm wondering when I should start giving Bee a graded score for things. I'm feeling a little lost here.

Things I’m working on…I'm trying to figure out a schedule for our household and homeschool. *sigh* I feel like I'm lost in a sea of things to get done and have NO direction. It is driving me CRAZY!

I’m praying for…I want the right attitude about where my life is and where it's going while I deal with this frustrating time.

Where have I been?

I'm sorry that I just suddenly disappeared but my hard drive on my laptop died.  Here's what has happened since then:

*Easter - We had Easter at my tiny apartment this year.  All of my family came down and despite all the contractions Bug didn't arrive early.

*My Birthday - It was very quiet this year because we didn't want to end up in the hospital delivering Bug early.

*Bug Arrived - Her C-Section was moved up to May 2nd because of low level of fluid.  Everything went fine and she arrived beautiful and healthy.  She was 6 pounds even and 17 1/2 inches long.  She was loved and adored by everyone.
Bee LOVES her new sister and didn't really like having to share her with all the grandparents. She's not jealous, this is her baby.

*We moved - We moved to our new apartment and LOVE the new place.  We have several wonderful new neighbors.  Bee has made a new friend already.

We are started our homeschool year on Monday, September 12th.  Bee and I are very excited.  I look forward to sharing with you all.

Around the house... I am hoping to pack up some boxes.

One of my favorite things... Listening to Bee laugh. She is so silly!

The Homeschool Mother's Journal - April 4th - 8th

The Homeschool Chick

In my life this week... I took the van to two different dealership mechanics.   The one we bought the van from was no help at all.  They said they couldn't even find a problem with the van, even though the check engine light is on.  The local dealership was so much more helpful.  They found the problem and fixed it in a timely manner.  I am very tired of sitting in mechanics waiting rooms to say the least.

I seriously don't know if I should lay hands on the van and pray for healing or shoot it and put it out of its pain. I have had it worked on twice this week and the check engine light came on this morning. grrrr Talk about having a bad day.

I did get a bit of a scare at the the OB's office this week.  For some strange reason I got a very high blood pressure reading.  I have been keeping track of my blood pressure at home the whole pregnancy so it was a scary moment to hear that it was very high.  There was no protein in my urine, so they rechecked my blood pressure and it was perfectly normal.  High risk pregnancies are stressful!

We did put our application in for our new apartment last Friday and we finally heard back.  We HAVE a new apartment!!! I am so excited to be moving into our new place on June 13th.

In our homeschool this week...  We are slowly but steadily working our way toward the end of our school year.

This weekend is the homeschool conference, but we have already purchased our curriculum for next year.  Being huge and pregnant also makes it not fun for me to do a lot of walking, so we are not going.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...  Monday morning we are going to see the OB and the Perinatologist.  Being high risks does have some advantages. We get to see Bug via ultrasound every week.

Monday afternoon we are taking the van back to the dealership service department again.  I hope they finally figure out what is going on with it.

My favorite thing this week was... Hearing back from our new apartment.  I will probably start packing up soon.  There are plenty of towels and linens and other things we don't use every day we can pack up.

What's working/not working for us... Being so close to the end of my pregnancy is making it difficult for me to have the energy I need to work with Bee.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have... I wonder how I am going to set up my homeschool space in our new home.

Outside my window... It's cloudy, but it's suppose to get up to the 70's today so we will see.

I am thinking... Today is going to be a fun one!

I am thankful for... Every day I carry Bug.  As of today she has stayed in longer then her big sister Bee.

I am wearing... Jean capri and a blue striped shirt.

In the learning rooms... We are continuing to try and stay focused and move forward toward the finish line of the school year.

I am going... To go to the MPE conference and the consignment sale.

I am reading... Nothing at the moment.  I have no new books right now.

I am hoping... The van is finally fixed.  The check engine light hasn't come back on yet.

On my mind... We got our new apartment!! We are moving into the new place JUNE 13TH!!!

Noticing that... Bug's kicking is getting more painful.

From the kitchen... Bee and I are making cornbread for a potluck for Daddy tomorrow.

One of my favorite things... A beautiful sunny day!

Kindergarten Week 31

Welcome to the week of  Motion. This week we read Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton.

What is Mike Mulligan to do when steam shovels are replaced with different types of shovels?  He makes a deal with a small town.

If he can't finish the basement of their new town hall in one day then they don't have to pay him.  Read the book and find out what happens.

This week we painted spring time trees.  Bee wanted to paint two different ones.  The first one just has a few leaves and leave buds.

The second one she wanted to paint to look like some of the flowering trees we have seen in the neighborhood.  I think she did very well.

Tune in next time for the week of the moon!

I am wearing... Jean Capri and a green shirt.

In the learning rooms... We are continuing to try and stay focused and move forward toward the finish line of the school year.

I am going... To get some shopping done and maybe the laundry.

I am reading... Homeschooling textbooks.

I am hoping... To make it to the Homeschool conference this weekend.  They have some really good speakers this year.  I am also hoping to make it to the HUGE consignment sale in our area.

On my mind... I'm ready to start thinking about packing!

Noticing that... The weekends until Bug's due date are all VERY busy!

From the kitchen... I'm thinking we may grill for dinner.

Around the house... We need to take out the trash, but for the most part the house is looking good.

One of my favorite things... Watching Bee learn something new.  She is learning how to tell time and it's so much fun to see her face light up when she understands a concept.

From my camera...For Some reason blogger isn't letting me load pictures.  Sorry everyone!

I am reading... Just text books until we are done with school.

I am hoping... To hear from the apartment place today.

On my mind... Trying to remain calm. My blood pressure was high yesterday at my OB check up.

Kindergarten Week 30

Welcome to the week of The Train.  This week we read Choo Choo by Virginia Lee Burton.  What happens when a pretty little locomotive decides to run away from her boring every day responsibilities.  Read the book and find out.

This week for craft we made finger print ants.  This was super simple and easy.  I just pulled out the black ink and crayons.  Bee really enjoyed making her different ants.  She made girls and boys and if you look closely you can see her queen ant.

Tune in next time for the week of Motion.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - March 31, 2011

For Today March 31, 2011

I am thankful for... A healthy pregnancy so far.

I am wearing... Jeans and a pink shirt.

In the learning rooms... We are continuing to try and stay focused and move forward toward the finish line of the school year.

I am going... To run a few short errands.

I am reading... Praise & Paraphrase by Pamela Sonnenmoser.  I actually finished it today, so now I will have to find something else to read.

I am hoping... To clean out our apartment of things we don't use, want or need by the end of the month.  Today is the last day of the month, so I better get on finishing it up.

On my mind... I need to get our application turned in for our new apartment very soon. I don't know what I'll do if we don't get approved for it.

Noticing that... Another night without sleep is making me drag today.

From the kitchen... I have no idea what to make for dinner.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - March 30, 2011

For Today March 30, 2011

Outside my window... It's a chilly, cloudy day.

I am thinking... I am not going back to Labor & Delivery until I think I am in labor.  I spent 2 hours last night hooked up to monitors because of Braxton Hicks contractions.  I was told to call if I had 6 or more contractions of any sort within a hour. I did and they told me to come in and have it checked out.  The looks on the nurse's faces was priceless when I told them, "no," when they asked if I thought I was in labor.  The sad thing was I left the hospital in more pain then when I arrived.  The blood pressure cuff was too big and bruised my arm and the bed made my hips hurt so bad.

I am thankful for... A healthy pregnancy so far.

I am wearing... Sweat pants and a t-shirt.  It's laundry day.

In the learning rooms... We are continuing to try and stay focused and move forward toward the finish line of the school year.

I am going... To stay home and work on laundry and cleaning.

I am reading... Praise &Paraphrase by Pamela Sonnenmoser

I am hoping... To clean out our apartment of things we don't use, want or need by the end of the month.

On my mind... We found an apartment yesterday and I'm so excited to be moving into it in June!!!

Noticing that... I am feeling very clam today, even though I didn't get very much sleep last night.

From the kitchen... I have no idea what to make for dinner.

Around the house... Today is the day of cleaning.

One of my favorite things... A clean tidy home!

From my camera...

Bee's made over jeans.  She had a hole in the knee so since they were too short we made cute capri for summer.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - March 29, 2011

For Today March 29, 2011

Outside my window... It's a chilly day.

I am thinking... I hope Bug shows up before her due date.  I had to schedule a C-section for her due date because my perinatologist won't let me go past my due date.

I am thankful for... A healthy pregnancy so far.

I am wearing... Jeans and a black shirt.

In the learning rooms... We are continuing to try and stay focused and move forward toward the finish line of the school year.

I am going... To take Daddy to the doctor's office.  I think he got Bee's sinus infection.

I am reading... Praise & Paraphrase by Pamela Sonnenmoser

I am hoping... To clean out our apartment of things we don't use, want or need by the end of the month.

On my mind... Why doesn't the laundry do itself?

Noticing that... I am feeling yucky because the weather keeps going from hot to cold. I wish it would just make up it's mind.  Daddy and Bee both have sinus infections and I don't want one too.

From the kitchen... I have no idea what to make for dinner.

Around the house... I have sewing projects I have been putting off that I NEED to get done and for some reason the house will not dust and vacuum it's self.

One of my favorite things... is Spring is on it's way!

From my camera...

My plant on the patio. Yes, it is snowing. lol.
