The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - Week 2

Join me and the Homeschool Mother's Journal  as we recap our week.

In my life this week…I am feeling completely overwhelmed.  I'm watching my nephews while my sister trys to get permanent childcare arrangements made.  They are 3 and 5 and VERY active boys.  I feel like I'm so far behind in cleaning a laundry I may never catch up. I
In our homeschool this week… We are still trying to get into a groove.  This week we studied monasteries.  We read The Ink Garden of Brother Theophane by C.M. Millen.

The pictures are beautiful, but I can't say Bee was all that impressed with it.  She did love learning that colored ink came from plants.

Bee is doing GREAT in Spelling and has gotten another perfect spelling test this week.  She is enjoying reading but is so excited to be reading books that I have to remind her to slow down and read EVERY word. We are still reviewing the Math from last year, so nothing new there.

I am still trying to finalize a ASL (American Sign Language) curriculum.  I am using several different resources and trying to come up with something that works for us.  I am also trying to figure out a way for our school days to go smoother.  I am currently trying to put together a school binder for Bee.  It will have lesson plans for the day, the schedule for the week and month.  I'm not sure what else will be in there, but it's a work in progress.

I am feeling frustrated at the Co-ops in our area.  Every time I try to find something to put Bee in, it's to expensive or they are no longer meeting.  I am taking a leap of faith and enrolling Bee in Awanas at a church in our area.

My favorite thing this week was…Bee dressed in her Ballerina outfit for her Ballet class.  She looks so cute in her little pink tights.

Questions/thoughts I have…How do I better allow Bee to spend time with other kids?

Things I’m working on… I'm working on a home binder and a School binder for Bee.  I'm hoping it will make me feel more organized.  I'm also working on staying calm.  I'm embarrassed to say I am having trouble not going crazy lately.

I’m grateful for…Those people who love me and remember I am only human.

I’m praying for…Peace. As I said before I am feeling very wound up lately and I don't like it.

Thank you for checking me out. I hope to see you again!

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - Week 1

Join me and the Homeschool Mother's Journal as we recap our week.

In my life this week…Everything else seems to be going crazy. One of my sister's has moved to our area and we are trying to help her out by watching her boys while she's trying to find a job and child care.  Bug is teething and not wanting to sleep in her own bed.  I am having to resort to letting her sleep in her swing in our room.  I have been trying to play catch up with sleep because of our little one.

In our homeschool this week…This was our first week of homeschool this year and it was a rocky one.  Bee is having a hard time paying attention and listening to instructions.  I'm sure it's very hard to do when there is a crying baby and a 3 year old cousin making noise.

This week our Theme was Tea Party.  We read Miss Spider's Tea Party by David Kirk.

It was a very cute book about a spider who just wants to be friendly to the bugs around her.  Bee was very upset with the other bugs because they were not very nice to Miss Spider.  Read the book and find out what happens when a moth is trapped and can't escape Miss Spider.

This week we have done a lot of reviewing for Phonics and Math.  I have to keep reminding Bee that once we are through reviewing we will be learning new more difficult things.  She is enjoying her new subject of Reading and can't wait for the Cursive to start too.  We are taking things slow for Sign Language so far. We have watched one Signing Time video and reviewed some basic signs.  For Social Studies we talked about Tea Party manners and etiquette.  For Science we discussed the Tea plant and how it's grown.

Bee did struggle with her first spelling test this week. She did fine on all her words but completely missed the point of her dictation sentence.  We practiced for the dictation sentence 3 times this week and she still didn't get it.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…This weekend we are going to Mr. Daddy's Dad and Step-Mom's for her birthday.
Questions/thoughts I have…I'm wondering when I should start giving Bee a graded score for things. I'm feeling a little lost here.

Things I’m working on…I'm trying to figure out a schedule for our household and homeschool. *sigh* I feel like I'm lost in a sea of things to get done and have NO direction. It is driving me CRAZY!

I’m praying for…I want the right attitude about where my life is and where it's going while I deal with this frustrating time.

Where have I been?

I'm sorry that I just suddenly disappeared but my hard drive on my laptop died.  Here's what has happened since then:

*Easter - We had Easter at my tiny apartment this year.  All of my family came down and despite all the contractions Bug didn't arrive early.

*My Birthday - It was very quiet this year because we didn't want to end up in the hospital delivering Bug early.

*Bug Arrived - Her C-Section was moved up to May 2nd because of low level of fluid.  Everything went fine and she arrived beautiful and healthy.  She was 6 pounds even and 17 1/2 inches long.  She was loved and adored by everyone.
Bee LOVES her new sister and didn't really like having to share her with all the grandparents. She's not jealous, this is her baby.

*We moved - We moved to our new apartment and LOVE the new place.  We have several wonderful new neighbors.  Bee has made a new friend already.

We are started our homeschool year on Monday, September 12th.  Bee and I are very excited.  I look forward to sharing with you all.
