The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - January 31,2015

Join me and Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, as we recap our week.
In my life this week...This week has been crazy. The kids and I picked Mr. Daddy up at the local airport last Saturday.  We were all very excited to see him again. He will have to go spend a week in February and a week in March doing more training.  We have discussed the possibility of the kids and I taking a short trip to join him at some point.

We set up a reward system in hopes of encouraging better behavior out of the girls. We set up some routines listed out step by step. The routines are kept in plastic sleeves on a ring with a clip.  For Bee her routines are just a list of numbered steps.  For Bug, who can't read yet, it is a picture for each step in the routine.  They have a Morning routine, a meal routine, and a bedtime routine.  If they complete the routine they receive a reward.  It's a nickel sized plastic star, that is worth a dime of spending money to them, that they keep in containers.  They also have a necklace that they can clip their routine cards to.  They can also earn a "proud-of-you".  Anytime they do something that makes us proud of them we put a small star shaped plastic bead on their necklace.  These stars are worth a penny of spending money to them.  The first day we used our new system was awesome.  The rest of the week was mixed.  I think it will take some fine tuning but we may have found a useful behavior system.
In our homeschool this week... This week went relatively easy.  Bee has struggled a little a new math concept, but is overall doing good.
My favorite thing this week was... My favorite thing was seeing how excited the girls were to show Mr. Daddy how well they did the first day on the new system.
My kiddos favorite thing this week was... The girls favorite thing this week was getting to pick Mr. Daddy up at the airport.
Things I'm working on... We are already looking into next year's curriculum.  We are fairly set on purchasing a Junior Kindergarten set for Bug, and a 5th Grade set for Bee from Memoria Press.  We are also looking for a good Spanish curriculum.  We are considering the Rosetta Stone for Homeschools, but we are open for other suggestions.
I'm grateful for... I was so grateful for the unseasonably warm weather we had here in the first part of this week.  We had 3 days of weather in the 60s and 70s.
Something I am looking for or need suggestions on...I am looking for a new purse and some new tops.  If you have any suggestions please share!
Until next time,

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - January 24, 2015

Join me and Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, as we recap our week.
In my life this week...This week has been an interesting one.  Mr. Daddy flew out Sunday to spend the week doing job training in Texas.  He said the flight down was difficult but  not too bad.  While he was down at training he basically lived on a campus.  He had an apartment, with a little frig but no microwave, on the third floor of a building with no elevator. He had to walk to and from the building with the cafeteria and the training room.  While he was there they had 3 small earthquakes, his first experience ever. I believe he is looking forward to getting back to the routine craziness of home. I know I miss him.

On Monday we went to a friend from church's farm.  Bee and Bug met Mr. R on our first Sunday at our church.  Bug decided almost immediately that she liked him.  He is a very sweet older gentleman that seems to be a grandfather figure to all the kids at the church. Mr. R has several horses and the girls were so excited to get to see and pet them.  They also enjoyed chasing the barn cats around, riding on the tractor and four wheeler, and just playing in the dirt.  Even Mr. Mister got in on the fun and enjoyed playing in the dirt.  They came home completely dirty and as happy as can be.  They had to take off their clothes in the mud room and go straight to the bath.

I got my coat in the new size.  It fits wonderfully and I love it so much.  I may have to get the sleeves altered, they are a little long, but I am extremely happy with it.  My new glasses came in also came in this week.   I have been unhappily stuck in my glasses since just before Mr. Mister was born. I never took the time to get my eyes examined and new contacts ordered.  I finally got my eyes examined last week and some new glasses and contacts ordered. I'm still waiting on the contacts to come in, but until then I'm enjoying my new frames.  They are similar to my old ones in shape but they are black and green.  Emerald green is my favorite color! I really love these glasses and they make me feel attractive.

In our homeschool this week... Bee has done very well this week since we took out Latin.  She is able to get through her day without all the fits and complaining.  It's very exciting because this will allow us to add some extra activities for the kids.  . We are also considering adding keyboarding
Places we're going and people we're seeing...We are picking Mr. Daddy up from the airport Saturday afternoon.
My favorite thing this week was... My favorite thing this week was getting my new glasses this week.
My kiddos favorite thing this week was... The girls loved getting to go to Mr. R's farm and playing with the horses.
Things I'm working on...  I'm working on coming up with a better schedule for our home.

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - January 17, 2015

Join me and Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, as we recap our week.
In my life this week... Just when I thought we had beat sickness Bee came down with something terrible. At first I thought it was just a cold, but by the morning of day 3 she announced her ear hurt.  Mr. Daddy took her to the doctor, no ear infection and she tested negative for strep.  She still doesn't feel good, but as of now we are treating it as a bad cold.

My new winter coat was delivered this week.  I loved the look of it, but it was too small in the chest.  I had to send it back and order a new one a size bigger.  I now have to wait for it to come again.  I also ordered a new set of glasses.  I'm looking forward to those coming too.
In our homeschool this week... Mr. Daddy and I decided this week to discontinue teaching Bee Latin.  She was getting frustrated with it every day and we no longer saw it as beneficial.  Next year we will be adding Spanish in place of the Latin.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...On Sunday we will be taking Mr. Daddy to the airport.  He will be spending a week in Texas for job training.
Things I'm working on....I have to find several new doctors.  Just after I had Luc I had some crazy blood pressure issues.  A cardiologist ran tons of tests, trying to figure out what was wrong.  They even did an ultrasound on my thyroid and found a nodule.  The ended up giving me lots of blood pressure medication and sending me home.  I now have to find a new doctor to help with my blood pressure medication and hopefully figure out if I have thyroid issues.  I am not looking forward to being a pen cushion, but I want to figure out what's wrong before it causes permanent damage to my heart.
I'm grateful for...I'm grateful that we haven't gotten really sick this cold and flu season.
I'm praying for... I'm praying for an easy cold and flu season.
Something I am ogling or have my eye on...I'm looking for a new purse.  Mr. Mister has finally out grown his diaper bag, he has a little backpack.  Looking for a new purse is more difficult than I originally thought.  The latest style is a large bag and I can't stand the disorganization that they cause.  I guess I will have to keep looking.
Until next time,

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - January 10, 2015

Join me and Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, as we recap our week.
In my life this week...This week was the coldest one we have had since our move.  There were days the high didn't go above freezing.  To make our life more exciting everyone got sick this week.  Mr. Mister was the worst.  He had high fever, congestion and cough.  After he started getting better we realized he also got 4 new teeth in, poor guy.  The girls lucked out and only got congestion and a cough.  Mr. Daddy and I got away with cold type symptoms.

We also made our vacation plans this week.  Mr. Daddy has to travel, for a week of job training, for the next 3 months.  We decided it was a good time to sit down and plan our vacation.  It was a toss up between a cruise, would be our first, and going to see my mom, who lives at the beach in North Carolina.  It was such a difficult decision, because we haven't seen my mom in a year and we have always wanted to go on a cruise.  We even asked Bee and Bug what they would pick.  They couldn't decided either.  We finally decided on flying out to North Carolina this year. It is our hope that we can take the cruise next year and my mom will either come with us or just come out for a visit. Now that the decision was made and the airplane tickets are bought everyone is getting excited. I'm excited because I get to spend my birthday at the beach!
In our homeschool this week... This was our first week back after a 2 week break for Christmas.  Even with everyone getting sick it went fairly well....
My favorite thing this week was...I bought a new winter coat finally!
My kiddos favorite thing this week was...The girls loved when we bought the airplane tickets for our upcoming vacation.
Things I'm working on...I'm working on meal planning.
I'm cooking...Mr. Daddy has asked for peanut butter cookies so I'm hoping to bake some more for him.
I'm grateful for... I'm grateful for the chance to plan a family vacation.
I'm praying for... I'm praying for good health for the family for the remainder of the cold and flu season.
Something I am ogling or have my eye on...I have had my eye on an Ergo baby carrier since Bee was a toddler, but I couldn't justify the cost.  Now with our pending vacation I have been searching online for a cheap used one.
