The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - February 28, 2015

Join me and Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, as we recap our week.
In my life this week... This week we were hit with two different snow storms.  We were hit with one snow storm at the beginning of the week that canceled church on Sunday.
We were pretty much stuck in the house until Tuesday when we had to run a bunch of errands.  Wednesday night we drove to Wichita for meetings for Mr. Daddy and a little break for the rest of us.  Thursday I spent all day trying to keep the kids from running crazy while they were cranky and tired.  Friday we were planning on doing some site seeing in town,  but since there was another snow storm heading in already we headed home instead.  I know Mr. Daddy and I were so glad to be home and sleeping in our own bed.  After goi
ng to bed early last night and a long nap today we are finally getting back to normal.
In our homeschool this week... Bee was mostly finished for the week before our little trip and easily finished today.  She also tried out the new typing software I got for her.  She really enjoyed it.  I also have been trying out the Rosetta Stone Spanish software we recently purchased.  I like it so far.  We will see how everyone else feels about it soon.
My favorite thing this week was... My favorite thing this week was watching Big Hero 6 with the family.
My kiddos favorite thing this week was... The girls really loved getting new pairs of cowboy boots.
The girls new cowboy boots.
Things I'm working on... I'm trying to get the kids bedroom in order, but only time will tell.
I'm grateful for... I'm grateful for our safe trip home.  There were a couple of times when the snow and ice got a little too much for our wiper blades.

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - February 21, 2015

Join me and Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, as we recap our week.
In my life this week... This week has been relatively calm.  We dropped Mr. Daddy off at the airport on Sunday for another week of training in Texas.  Mr. Mister has been missing his daddy so much this week.  On Wednesday we drove by where Mr. Daddy works and from the back seat, "Dada! Dada! Dada!" I guess Mr. Mister knows where he works.  We will be picking Mr. Daddy up from the airport on Saturday afternoon.
I haven't done any more work on the kids bedroom this week.  I need to take some pictures of the girls bed and old dresser to get them sold.  Mr. Daddy suggested I order the Ikea bed I like, but I explained there is no reason to until we sell their current one.  We have no place to store an extra bed.  I have spent some time thinking about how to do some decorating for their room.  When I was pregnant with Mr. Mister the girls really liked the idea of a Star Wars themed room.  I even made a Pinterest board full of ideas.  You can check it our here.  I have been looking at it recently and looking for new ideas.  Bee is very unhappy with the lack of Princess Leia items available.  She doesn't understand why people think Star Wars is only a boy thing.  I don't understand that type of thinking either.
In our homeschool this week... Bee has done really well for the week. She finished all her work for the week after 10 minutes of work on Thursday.  She started on next weeks work already.  She's trying to finish the school year early.
Places we're going and people we're seeing... We are taking a short vacation next week.  It's nothing fancy, it's just an over night stay at a hotel and then a day of exploring a city.
Things I'm working on...  I'm working on getting a cleaning routine established.  The girls got excited and wanted to help so we set up personal cleaning kits for each.  I bought them each a bucket, a apron, a cleaning sponge, a little dustpan set, and a duster.  They are excited to get started, but we will see how long that lasts.
I'm grateful for... I am so grateful for Mr. Daddy who is always willing to help out around the house.
I'm praying for... I'm praying for a calm trip home for Mr. Daddy who is prone to get car sick.
Something I am ogling or have my eye on...  I have wanted an Ergo baby carrier since Bee was a baby but never could justify the cost.  I am seriously considering buy one now, especially to use for our up coming vacation.

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - February 14, 2015

Join me and Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, as we recap our week.
In my life this week... This week has been a very busy one.  We have been working on our home furnishings and downsizing this week.  We decided to sell their old dresser and purchased some plastic storage drawers for the kids to use in their bedroom.
The new 5 drawer storage for the kids.
They work well and take up a lot less space in their room.  We have also decided that we will have to sell their old bed.  Mr. Mister wouldn't stay off the steps when we were transferring their clothes to the new drawer, so before we can move him into the room the old bed has to go.  I really like the Kura bed from IKEA.

I like that it's a bunk bed and the top bunk is only 45" tall.  The bottom mattress is on the floor.  The girls are really wild sleepers so someone falling out of be is always a possibility.  I have also seen some pictures on Pinterest where people have custom built crib rails on the bottom to use them as a crib.  Check it out here.

We sold our old reclining sofa and replaced it with a loveseat and ottoman with storage.

Our new loveseat and ottoman
Now our living room feels bigger and we need to buy end tables.  Sometimes it feels like a never ending process, but maybe that's because we move often.

Friday I celebrated my 24th Adoption Birthday.  We never do anything crazy exciting.  I usually send a card or at the least call my mom and say thank you for adopting me.  Her choosing to adopt me is a big deal because I was 12.  Older kids don't usually get adopted, it's just a sad fact.  Every year, since Mr. Daddy and I got married in 2007, he has called my mom and said thank you for adopting my wife, without you  we would have never met.
Valentine's Day flowers
For Valentine's Day the kids and I bought Mr. Daddy some chocolate and a little recordable charm.  Bee and Bug recorded a sweet message and it can be changed often if they want to.  Mr. Daddy bought me some beautiful roses.
In our homeschool this week... This week we got most of our new curriculum for next year. Bug was so excited she kept asking if we could start her new stuff right now.  I also ordered Rosetta Stone's Spanish for Homeschool.  The girls are really looking forward to starting it in the fall.
Bee is still doing great one day and moving slow the next, but we will just keep on keeping on.  I have come to the decision that Bug needs more of an outlet for all of her energy so we are looking for activities for her and Bee.  I'm hoping that having a fun class to go to will encourage Bee to have more productive days regularly.
Helpful Homeschooling tips or advice to share... Sometimes you just have to take a small break or vacation to recharge.
Places we're going and people we're seeing... We are taking Mr. Daddy to the airport tomorrow.  He's going to Texas for another week of training for work.
My favorite thing this week was... I guess I'm just a big kid, but I love getting stuff in the mail.  Getting the curriculum and going through it was so much fun. I'm looking forward to getting more packages.
My kiddos favorite thing this week was... The girls loved getting cards and gifts from their grandparents in the mail.
Things I'm working on... I'm working more on myself this week.  Sometimes I feel like I'm the only grown woman who isn't capable of fixing my own makeup. I was never interested in makeup when I was a teenager, now as an adult I feel lacking.  I have been checking out tons of makeup tutorials for beginners on youtube.  I'm not interested in looking like a famous person, but I would like to look nice.  I feel like I have learned some new skills and I look good. I'm also taking the time and energy to shop for some new clothes for myself.  I really dislike shopping for clothes for myself but it's a need not a want at this point.  Why is it so hard to take better care of ourselves?
I'm grateful for... I'm so grateful for being able to shop online.  Our little town is so small that sometimes you can only what you want or need online.
I'm praying for... I'm praying for Mr. Daddy's safety while he's away for us this next week.
Something I am ogling or have my eye on...
Super cute jacket from ModCloth.

The Homeschool Weekly Buzz - February 7, 2015

Join me and Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, as we recap our week.
In my life this week... It's been a crazy week.  We are still working on our new reward systems.  Some days it just seems like it's hit and miss and others it works great.  I'm determined to make it work.
We are trying to come up with a plan of action to move all the kids into a room together.  Mr. Mister has been sharing a bedroom with Mr. Daddy and I since he came home from the hospital.  The girls have been sharing a room for about 2 years now and sometimes we have made their bedroom just for sleeping and getting dressed since then.  We have had homes where we set up a play room with all of their toys and we have had homes where they have to play in the living room floor. We feel that by removing toys from their room it cuts down on clutter because it can't be shoved under the bed or in the closet.  It has also allowed us to cut down on the number of toys.  Since Mr. Mister is basically weaned and sleeping through the nights some we think the time has come.  The logistics of this is crazy.  Last year we bought the girls a really neat bed set.  The bottom bed is on wheels and you have to pull it out to sleep on it.
We got a really good deal on it and the girls and I were excited about it.  I now realize how short sighted the decision was.  If the decision hadn't been spur of the moment we would have probably bought some sort of bunk bed because it has always been the plan for the kids to share a room.  This time Mr. Daddy and I are really trying to look at the long run so we are not wasting money on buying new beds every year.  This also brings into play the question of if we are going to have another baby, but that's a whole other topic for another time.  If you have any tips or suggestions PLEASE share in the comments.
The exciting part of this week was Wednesday when Bee decided it was time to finally cut her hair for locks of love.  She has been growing her hair out for some time, but always seemed unsure if she wanted short hair.  She finally decided and really loves her new cut.  She was also happy to give her hair to a little girl who doesn't have any.  Bug also wanted to get her hair cut too.  She was so excited to have "a lot" of hair cut off too.  We got her hair cut to about her shoulders.

Bee's hair after.
In our homeschool this week... I ordered next years curriculum this week. Bug is SUPER excited! She just wants to be a big kid like her sister.  I haven't ordered the Spanish curriculum yet, I'm not sure why.  I also have a confession to make.  I was really excited to read out the homeschool coops in this area when we were getting ready to move, but I haven't really made any contact.  I joined the group online, but no one is sharing any information online.  It really makes me frustrated.  The fact that I'm not the typical girly girl makes me worried that I will not get along with the other moms. I have only made one new homeschool mom friend and it's only because she works with Mr. Daddy.  Latina Mama V is an amazing single mom who also homeschools her son and such a blessing to me.
My favorite thing this week was...Today Mr. Daddy came early from work so I could have some much needed me time.  I got to spend over a hour talking with another homeschool mom from the area.  It was so much fun to talk with Latina Mama V!
My kiddos favorite thing this week was... The girls loved getting their hair cut this week.
Things I'm working on... I'm working on updating my sad mom wardrobe.  I'm on a mission to find cute and comfortable new clothes.  Finding great tops that fit is really hard for me, so I may have to do some sewing.
I'm grateful for... I'm so grateful for the awesome new purse that Mr. Daddy insisted I get for myself.  I haven't bought myself a new purse since before Bug was born.  Mr. Daddy knows that I don't spend money on things for myself, so when I saw a cute purse I liked he made sure I bought it. I have such a wonderful husband.
